Six World Cups with goals

Portugal delivered their first emphatic win of the 2026 World Cup with a 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan, moving to the top of Group K after two matches.

After opening the tournament with a draw against DR Congo, Portugal played with far more urgency. Cristiano Ronaldo set the tone in the sixth minute, meeting Joao Cancelo's pass and finishing with a powerful strike for a 1-0 lead.

Nuno Mendes doubled the advantage in the 17th minute before Ronaldo struck again in the 38th, giving Portugal a 3-0 halftime lead and effectively putting the match under their control.

Portugal kept pressing after the break. Uzbekistan goalkeeper Utkir Yusupov was beaten again in the 60th minute when a defensive mistake ended in an own goal, stretching the score to 4-0.

Rafael Leao added the fifth in the 87th minute, closing out a result that strengthened Portugal's position in the group and left Uzbekistan close to elimination.

Ronaldo's brace also carried historic weight. The 41-year-old became the first men's player to score in six different World Cups, moved past Eusebio as Portugal's all-time World Cup scoring leader, and extended his record as a player with double-digit goals at both the World Cup and the European Championship.

FIFA marked the milestone by congratulating Ronaldo as the first male player to score at six World Cups, turning Portugal's win into one of the standout stories of the matchday.
